Brace yourself…

February 12, 2007

I had to think rather a lot at work today, and I’m braindead, so this will be short.

Three things to brace yourself for. First up, the weather forecast for Toronto:

Tuesday: Cloudy with 60 percent chance of snow in the morning. Snow beginning early in the afternoon. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Local blowing snow in the afternoon. Wind northeast 30 km/h gusting to 50. High minus 13. Wind chill minus 27.

Tuesday night: Snow at times heavy and local blowing snow. Amount 10 to 15 cm. Wind northeast 30 km/h gusting to 50. Low minus 12. Wind chill minus 25.

Wednesday: Periods of snow and blowing snow. Windy. High minus 9.

According to Environment Canada, the next time it will be warmer than -9C is Friday. I feel like throwing a tantrum right about now: I don’t wanna go out! I don’t wanna go to work! I don’t wanna! Whaaah!

The second thing to brace yourself for: Tybalt’s Tiny Chunks of Empire blog (which is well worth reading) now contains what might very well be the worst pun of 2007 so far. You have been warned.

And finally: according to the Globe, a Senate committee report on Afghanistan says that it could take decades to resolve the situation there. The report asks the question, “Are Canadians willing to commit themselves to decades of involvement in Afghanistan, which could cost hundreds of Canadian lives and billions of dollars with no guarantee of ending up with anything like the kind of society that makes sense to us?” The report also calls for an increased commitment from other NATO allies; if this is not forthcoming, Canada should take another look at its mission.
